Bedroom updates plus a new project! oh my

There have been some more updates to my youngest daughter's bedroom.  

I'll start off by showing you her new blinds, yeah not too exciting but it really is for me...see when we moved in, we kept the blinds that came with the house, hhhmmmmmm they were a tad small...but there were tons of other things to worry about...but anyhoot, since her room is being redone, new blinds were in order.....and so here they are....

Hubby and I were garage hunting, doesn't everyone do that on the weekends? okay moving on, so we saw this bed, a full size bed for $20? SOLD...

a little bit of paint later, okay a whole lot of paint later and TADA....

how pretty? really it shouldn't be this easy? well it's NOT easy but this pretty!  So, if you noticed I moved the chest, I love that this was done, and yes I'll give props to my hubby for suggesting it....Thank you honey!!!!

Oh yeah and because I can't just do ONE project at a time, while at this garage sale hunt, we found this a fireplace mantle, all we had was a glass covering on the fire pit "hole in the wall" so this was right up our alley...

Again, since I can't just do ONE thing at a time, I figured the wall of the stairs should get a make-over, in my defense, I was already thinking of this months ago, so I started to stencil it. Okay this is NOT what I wanted, it didn't turn out perfect like it's supposed to...I was going to paint it over and then hubby told me not to....so I listened

so what I did do what paint the wall - it was green - to this toasted wheat color and painted the fireplace cover black, it was gold, GOLD, what in the world...I did live with it gold for about 6 months! sheesh!!!

And because the stencil wall bothers me, it still bothers me, I had to start adding to it to  kind of hide the imperfections, am I the only one that does this? 

OH and my fireplace got a fresh new paint job with the antique white from my daughter's furniture renovation, and we SPLURGED lol, on the glass tiles to add a kick to the fireplace, I absolutely LOVE it....

Here she is all pretty for halloween....hhhhmmmmm NO this is not how it's going to stay...I bought a mirror to go over the fireplace, I changed the decor, and I have to take some pics after I hang my mirror, but I had people over this weekend so I had to dress her up!!!

So here is the beginning of I guess, my gallery wall of sorts, I still need a couple of items to hang up but I just don't want to do all frames...so I"m still on the hunt

 So it's NOT finished but this is the fun part....decorating it....

The chest all set up...with new knobs from Michaels and some decor

Trying to set up the desk area...I am playing around with what to add to the shelf, but I kind of like this combination of a shelf with the candles on the side, the books will be off the desk, I have a special place for them but I have yet to purchase it...so for now they will sit on this desk

The other side of the room, still need to purchase new bed sheets...I wanted ruffles....ruffles everywhere...oh yeah and we have a headboard and footboard that we are painting to go along with the bed and make it look finished...the lack tables...I think they're going...I don't know yet.

More updates!

My hubby brought home this desk, there was this garage sale, but the guy was not selling this desk - he was giving it away....this was back in August, it is going into my younger daughter's bedroom - so here continues the bedroom makeover....

I am still working on it...but how pretty is it turning out! I'm super happy about it

Isn't this chair the coolest...don't know if I have a before pic but it was dark work and with some hideous fabric that was at one point blue and then kind turned brown....hideous....a fresh coat of paint and of course some new fabric coming right up....oh I may cover the entire top portion of the chair, the way it was originally was only a middle piece of fabric....weird....well I'll keep you posted on the progress of this chair and everything else in this room. 

I am not allowing myself to work on anything else but this room. I want it finished - but I am anxious to work on other projects....I picked up 2 chairs that need reupholstering, the said mentioned chairs were to go in my living room but I think they make work better in my office/guest bedroom.

I also want to do some stenciling to my dining room so I have a lot of things I want to do but I am making sure that I finish what I start!!!!

OH BOY that was a mouthful!!!!

This princess chair will be gone soon...do you see the chest...well it needs another coat of paint

a peek at the mirror....how awesome is it? It's a garage sale find...5 bucks and it was once white...now it's pink for my sweet daughter who LOVES pink!!!

So that's the progress in this bedroom. I hope to have all the furniture painted this week, I need new window treatments...I still have loads left to do in this room but I think it's coming together quite nicely....

Oil-based paint - STINKS!

Not only does it really STINK but it stinks to clean as well!!!

Okay, now that that's off my chest, here is the ahem.....chest I painted with oil-based paint...a garage sale fine, going into my younger daughter's bedroom - as part of her bedroom make-over

You take one of these "famous" brushes that I've heard great things about all over blogland

and some of this stuff 

and you do this....

and finally....this....

and when you're done, you realize that you do not have paint thinner to clean your new "expensive" brush and you want to cry, and then, you realize you have to leave this room cuz it STINKS, and on top of all that, you hope and pray that you did the right thing by painting this piece of furniture...tomorrow is another day, I hope that I LOVE the results.  I will keep you posted...

11 year old celebration...

We celebrated my daughter's 11th bday...

We had giggling 11 year olds...

a couple of soon-to-be 7 year olds...

and some toddlers and a baby...a whole bunch of adults...

and with that you have an awesome party....

The table set up before the cake and balloons...I have to upload the rest of the pics...but you get the pictures...(lol I have lots of pictures...)

Soon I will post the rest of the pictures and the cake that I made...such a pretty cake, I got the idea from "I am baker" - great ideas...and such a pretty cake...

It's been a while....

Summer has come and gone....school has begun and I will begin my job search soon, but enough about me, let's get down to some pictures to show you what I have been up to, in between, swim lessons and back-to-school shopping!!!!

First of all, I started redoing my oldest daughter's room...I've got to say about a year ago, it went from doing her carpet to changing her furniture.  The last thing on the list was to change the color...so finally we changed the color.....it went from this HOT pink...

I tried my  hand at stencils and LOVED it...I did her closet doors, I got this design from Jones Designs, the blog...so it was hand drawn, then painted on...it's not perfect but it works!

 

And no onto my younger daughter's bedroom, when we moved in she was 3 (now soon-to-be 7) and she wanted exactly what her sister wanted....HOT PINK....

In between all this my oldest turned 11....happy birthday beautiful!

Priming the next bedroom.....

Color after....yes the little ones loves it!!!! woo hooo, I told her not to worry I will bring back the hot pink but in accessories

stenciling again...this time Martha Stewart stencils, her new line is awesome, also got the paint Fruit Punch in pearl....so beautiful......

I rearranged her room, so her bed will now be facing the window, to add some space to her room, those are lkea lack tables, one on top of the other, I wanted a window seat but it was too much space being taken up.....I'm still deciding exactly how to do her room...

This chest is going, a new one (well a refurbished one will be replacing it, once I paint it and get it all set up, but that will be another post...the princess chair....will go too....the Step 2 desk...will be gone as well and will be replaced with a new big girl desk - we picked it up for free...yes FREE....woo hoo...it was a dark -DARK- wood, so it's half-way sanded and then will be transformed into something beautiful ( I hope...)

The rug will also be taken out, and the laminate flooring will come in, it's actually under her bed for the past (2 years)...pathetic, I know....well this room will be slowly transitioning into a beautiful bedroom, and perhaps I can get the little princess off my bed!!!!
